This is a powerful sentence, I feel like delusion and self deception are so prevalent, especially in western culture, where we’re taught to strive for more than we are. Or at least the positivism movement seems to draw the conclusion that there must be a benevolent being underneath the “bad” behaviour. Perhaps that comes from the prevalence of a benevolent father God figure? In actuality, benevolence is cultivated. Is it a natural phenomenon to delude yourself in the process of self growth? Is it part of the “ego strength” that we need to survive a crisis?
