We put our trust in corporations that sustain us
We put our trust in corporations that sustain us,
Sustain our sense of self
Through marketing and wealth,
Or our sense of unself.
Our dissatisfaction,
Our depression making targets for an improved life,
If only I could get that next thing I’d get out of this strife,
And I’d be cruising.
Not a care in the world.
Be bold, they say, don’t care what it is if doesn’t serve your gifts and you’re there.
You’ve made it; a winner, not a loser, your dinner on the plate every night,
And you cruise to your laptop to work online, every single day.
In every way, you’re missing one crucial fact,
And it’s not designed to alarm you,
I know you’re overwhelmed but please stay, it gets easier, you’re freedom is just a cognitive glance away.
You’re perfect, it doesn’t get any better. There is no improvement you can be happy in a second. You’re a winner.
And since you’re so happy you can go on and achieve and recognise the effort and focus that this world needs to survive us,
The sixth great extinction is happening around us:
The ice caps, the glaciers; the species that are dying off; the micro changes in climate; natural disasters are explained.
The rise of the populist, and the protests that follow it. The threat to democracy by the white superior polity; colonial rules hidden in indecipherable policy, and manipulative tweets.
Short and sharp, seemingly concise, they make light work of our distraction and confusion, they suffise.
They diffuse and bemuse,
They direct hatred at borders and immigrants and other easy targets,
It’s a wonder what they’re doing behind all the laughing and ridicule. It’s a short gasp of smoke on this beautiful world that we call our host. She’s struggling with the deep neglected depression,
Whilst all we do is blame it on the ‘recession’.
